Local elections in Pridnestrovie: The last week

The elections will take place next Sunday, March 28. All the fences and posts of Tiraspol and other towns of Pridnestrovie are pasted over with leaflets of candidates for deputy. Many of the potential peopleβs representatives didnβt spare some money for stands and billboards.
Taking into account the fact that the population of the towns is mostly represented by Russian-speaking people, all the leaflets and other political products are printed in Russian. Thus, many of the candidates point out their connection with Russian Federation.
According to data provided by the experts, the most active electorate will vote in Tiraspol. This week candidates try to visit their potential supporters at their homes. The average number of the votes needed to win at the districts of Tiraspol is about 250-300 votes.
Groups of the electioneerers polemize with each other. Some of the candidates at some districts come into conflicts but these confrontations do not step over the bounds.
Taking into account local situation and weak party system, candidates draw attention to their experience, not their political affiliation.
About 3-4 peopleβs representatives have pretentions to mandate at every district of Tiraspol. Most of them are strong, speaking about finances and administrative support. Such a situation makes the elections rather an interesting performance which excludes fraud.
Some of the candidates plan to put video cameras at the districts to avoid violations.
The last week before the elections is likely to be scandalous. However, experts agree that low voter turnout will be caused by a large number of those who left Tiraspol to earn money somewhere else. However, there have been cases when migrant workers planned to come home specially because of the elections.
